The Pre-Advent Judgment
When are you judged? Are you judged when you die, or at a different time? Is it good news, or bad news? What does it mean for the believer? These questions, and more, answered in this Bible study.
Question 1: What great truth do we find out about God in Exodus?
He wants to dwell with His people through the Sanctuary Message.
Exodus 25:8 — And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them.
Question 2: What does God want us to learn from the Sanctuary?
God wants us to learn about Him, and His plan of salvation: aka, the Gospel of Jesus.
Psalms 77:13 — Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God?
Question 3: But how does Daniel say the antichrist would attack this Truth?
The antichrist power would attack and hide these truths from the world for centuries, and this is exactly what happened.
Daniel 8:10-14 — And it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them. Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down. And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered. Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot? And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.
Question 4: What did the sacrifices point forward to?
The sacrificial lambs pointed forward to the death of Jesus on Calvary, to illustrate how the shedding of blood was needed for forgiveness to happen.
Leviticus 1:4, 11 — And he shall put his hand upon the head of the burnt offering; and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement for him…And he shall kill it on the side of the altar northward before the LORD: and the priests, Aaron's sons, shall sprinkle his blood round about upon the altar.
Matthew 26:28 — For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
Hebrews 9:22 — And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

Question 5: What did the priest do with the blood of the lamb?
He would take the blood and perform the ceremonies of forgiveness.
Leviticus 4:16-17 — And the priest that is anointed shall bring of the bullock's blood to the tabernacle of the congregation: 17 And the priest shall dip his finger in some of the blood, and sprinkle it seven times before the LORD, even before the vail.
Question 6: Besides being our Lamb, what else does the Sanctuary show Jesus is for us?
Jesus is not only our Lamb, but He is also our High Priest, both equally necessary for us.
1 Corinthians 5:7 — Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
Hebrews 4:14-16 — Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Question 7: What does the Bible say about the Day of Atonement?
It was the yearly holy day that symbolized the future judgment.
Leviticus 16
Leviticus 23:26-32 — And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD. And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the LORD your God. For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people. And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people. Ye shall do no manner of work: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings. It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath.
Question 8: Why were there two goats and what did they represent?
The Lord’s Goat represented Jesus, making atonement for our sins, while the scapegoat represented Satan and his punishment for causing us to sin.
Leviticus 16:8-9, 14, 16, 20-22 — And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the LORD, and the other lot for the scapegoat. And Aaron shall bring the goat upon which the LORD's lot fell, and offer him for a sin offering…And he shall take of the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it with his finger upon the mercy seat eastward; and before the mercy seat shall he sprinkle of the blood with his finger seven times…And he shall make an atonement for the holy place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions in all their sins: and so shall he do for the tabernacle of the congregation, that remaineth among them in the midst of their uncleanness…And when he hath made an end of reconciling the holy place, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and the altar, he shall bring the live goat: And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness: And the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land not inhabited: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness.
Question 9: But is there really a sanctuary in Heaven?
Exodus 25:8 says the Israelite sanctuary was a pattern, or copy, of the Sanctuary in Heaven.
Exodus 25:8 — And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them.
Hebrews 9:12, 23-24 — Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us…It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:
Question 10: Where did Jesus ascend after His resurrection?
He ascended to the Holy Place of the Heavenly Sanctuary.
Hebrews 9:12 — Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
Question 11: How long would the Sanctuary Truth be cast to the ground?
For 2,300 prophetic days, aka, 2,300 literal years. (One day of prophetic time is equal to one year of literal time.)
Daniel 8:14 — And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.
Numbers 14:34 — After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.
Ezekiel 4:6 — And when thou hast accomplished them, lie again on thy right side, and thou shalt bear the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days: I have appointed thee each day for a year.
Question 12: Does the Bible tell us when this prophecy would begin and end?
This time prophecy began in the fall of 457 BC at the beginning of the restoration of Jerusalem, and ended in the fall of 1844 AD. (See 2,300 day/year flow chart at the bottom of the page.)
Ezra 7:1-27
Daniel 8:14 — And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.
Daniel 9:24-27 — Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
Question 13: But aren’t we judged at death?
Jesus Himself (and Paul) said rewards are given at the second coming, not at death, therefore the judgment cannot happen at death.
John 5:28-29 — Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
Matthew 16:27 — For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.
Revelation 22:12 — And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 — But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
Question 14: So, when did the judgment begin?
October 22, 1844.
Daniel 8:14 — And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.

Question 15: What group of people are judged first?
Those who profess faith in Jesus.
1 Peter 4:17 — For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?
Revelation 22:11-12 — He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
Question 16: Where does this judgment take place?
In the Most Holy Place of the Heavenly Sanctuary, shortly before the Second Coming of Jesus
Daniel 7:9-14 — I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire. 10 A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened. 11 I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake: I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame. 12 As concerning the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away: yet their lives were prolonged for a season and time. 13 I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. 14 And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.
2 Corinthians 5:10 — For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
Revelation 14:6-7 — And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, 7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
Matthew 16:27 — For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.
Revelation 22:12 — And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

Question 17: What evidence does God use in the judgment?
Books of judgment and the book of life, as well as the Ten Commandments.
Exodus 32:31-33 — And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold. Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin—; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written. And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.
Daniel 12:1 — And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
Matthew 12:36-37 — But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
1 Corinthians 4:9 — For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men.
Philippians 4:3 — And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life.
James 2:12 — So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.
Revelation 3:5 — He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
Revelation 20:12-13 — And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
Question 18: Besides being our Lamb, what else does the Sanctuary show Jesus is for us?

Question 19: Will every detail of our lives come into review?
Yes, every single detail.
Ecclesiastes 12:14 — For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
Matthew 13:30, 41 — Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn….The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
Revelation 20:11-15 — And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Question 20: Who presides at the judgment?
The Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit, and the angels of Heaven. Jesus specifically is our advocate, or lawyer.

John 5:22 — For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:
Colossians 1:12-15 — Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
1 John 2:1-2 — My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
Revelation 3:14 — And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
Revelation 12:9-10 — And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
Question 21: When does the pre-advent judgment end?
A short time before Jesus returns the second time.
Daniel 12:1-2 — And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
Revelation 22:11-12 — He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
Question 22: What happens when the pre-advent judgment ends?
Probation closes for all of humanity, signifying that forgiveness is no longer offered to the wicked, and the righteous are eternally sealed at that point.

Question 23: What happens between the judgment ending and Jesus returning?
The Great Tribulation, aka, the Time of Trouble
Daniel 12:1-2 — And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

Revelation 13:12-18 — And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Question 24: What rewards are given to the righteous and the wicked after the judgment at the return of Jesus?
Eternal life for the righteous, destruction and eternal death for the wicked.

Revelation 6:15-17 — And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?
